The square, created in 2020, is named after Yuri Nikolaevich Kuravov (1931-2001), a Russian writer, prose writer, poet and essayist. From 1982 to 2001 the writer lived at 9 Karl Marx Street, Svetlogorsk.
Yuri Kuravov is a recognized master of lyrical miniature, a follower of the Turgenev tradition – prose poems. The writer's books have been translated into 20 foreign languages.
Bronze figures depicting characters from the writer's stories – "The Princess", "The Swallow's Gaze" and "The Feast at Dawn" – are installed in the square. Author – sculptor Andrei Shevtsov, 2020.
